Shipping groups can be assigned to products to distinguish between different product types, disable specific shipping methods for certain products, or apply higher shipping rates.
For example, a store may sell hazardous items that cannot be delivered by air.
The extension adds a Shipping group select box to the product editing page. The store administrator can leave regular products assigned to the Default group and assign the Hazardous items group to specific products.
Shipping methods can then be configured based on the assigned shipping groups. For example, an air shipping method can be disabled for hazardous items by defining rates only for regular products.
At the same time, shipping methods dedicated to hazardous items can be configured to be displayed only when at least one hazardous item is available in the cart.
This feature is completely optional. By default, all products are assigned to the Default group, and shipping rates apply to all groups using the Any group option.
